SNEB Annual Conference Sustainability Efforts
Commitment to Sustainability
The Society for Nutrition Education and Behavior (SNEB) is committed to sustainability as a core value and goal. This year we hope you will take note of actions we’ll take at the annual conference to reduce waste, such as promote the use of reusable coffee mugs and reusable eating utensils (see options here and here). We encourage you to bring your own mug and/or water bottle as a personal action to reduce waste.
What SNEB is Doing
Healthy Meeting Guidelines
The following Healthy Meeting Guidelines were adopted via resolution by the SNEB membership in September 2014 and by the Board of Directors in October 2015. To the extent that funding and staff resources are available and the item is logistically feasible, SNEB will incorporate these guidelines into its meetings. SNEB’s goal is to fulfill at least 80% of the guidelines for each meeting.
What the Hotel is Doing
The Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina has adopted a comprehensive plan to guide its activities towards more sustainable practices. Read more about the hotel’s sustainability efforts here.
What You Can Do
Save on your flight – then offset your carbon footprint!
Delta Air Lines is pleased to offer special discounts for the Society for Nutrition Education and Behavior. Discounts vary from 2% to 10% based on which flight class you book. Click here to book your flights! You may also call Delta Meeting Network® at 1.800.328.1111* Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 8:30 p.m. ET and refer to Meeting Event Code NMUBN. Please note there is not a service fee for reservations booked and ticketed via the reservation 800 number.
You can then take those savings and use them to purchase a carbon offset through Delta’s website. If you purchase your offset through their website, you can choose a specific project for your offset to benefit, like the Guatemalan coast conservation or TIST farmers in Kenya.
How can I purchase carbon offsets?
If you prefer donating to a different organization than the projects Delta includes, below is a list of organizations you may purchase carbon offsets from to balance your carbon footprint:
Keep in mind there may be more locally-based carbon offset programs in your area. For example, in the Finger Lakes Region of New York, travelers can purchase carbon offsets from the Finger Lakes Climate Fund.
Transportation
Ride sharing can help reduce the environmental impact of travel-related emissions compared to driving individually. All Lyft rides are now carbon neutral. As Lyft becomes one of the world’s largest voluntary purchasers of carbon offsets, every ride will now contribute to fighting climate change. Read More Here.
