Leveraging Local Food Systems for Healthy Food Access

Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

The COVID-19 pandemic and related recession has exacerbated longstanding issues of food insecurity and diet and health disparities in the U.S. Nutrition professionals working across clinical, community, organizational, and government settings are uniquely qualified to leverage the local food system toward more ubiquitous healthy food access and equitable achievement of nutritional adequacy. This webinar will cover the local to federal continuum of food security-focused food system efforts; examples of both assistance- and market-based programmatic models for promoting healthy food access; considerations for the evaluation of such models, especially as it relates to policy advocacy; and, current policies, government activities, and advocacy opportunities related to local food systems funding and planning.
