Comments:
The resource provides a good overview of shopping strategies based on MyPyramid principles.

Material well-organized and major points presented clearly.

Comments:
The resource is organized so the viewer can easily follow the main points.

Comments:
The resource begins with an overview of MyPyramid.
F. Learner Background
Material assumes that reader has some background information.

Comments:
Many concepts are covered in a fairly short amount of time, so some background would be beneficial.
G. Learning Objectives
Learning objectives identifiable and met somewhat.

Comments:
The purpose of the resource was not explicitly stated but was inferred by the title. No written materials were provided.
H. Learning Activities, Projects, or Interactive Learning Tools
Not applicable.

Comments:
An accompanying teaching guide with suggestions for follow-up questions and activities would be a helpful addition for educators.
I. Objectivity/Sponsor Bias
Subject matter presented objectively and fairly. No brand name promotion or obvious sponsor bias.

Comments:
Since the DVD was filmed in a grocery store, brand names are apparent in the examples that were used but no product was promoted.

Audiovisual Materials

A. Concept Presentation
Audio and/or visuals are mutually supportive to presentation of concepts.

Comments:
The DVD was fairly fast-paced with a good mix of footage of people, graphic illustration and food label examples.
B. Pace
Most of the visual presentation progresses at a pace that facilitates comprehension. Pacing of dialogue allows some time for absorbing concepts presented. Limited blank time provided.

Comments:
The resource covers many concepts in a short time, so it would work well as an introduction or summary for an education session so the participants would have more time to process the information.
C. Auditory Quality
Speaker, voice and music are clear; sound is audible and has good quality.
D. Visual Quality
Visuals are clear and properly framed; graphics and titles are clearly visible; color, lighting, and editing enhance presentation of content.

Continuity sufficient to provide some cohesiveness and smooth flow. Visuals somewhat logically sequenced. Auditory portion well matched with visual portion.

Overall Comments on Resource Reviewed

A. Positive Points of the Reviewed Resource:
The resource provides a condensed version of nutrition strategies to use when grocery shopping. Besides providing an overview of MyPyramid, it covers concepts including writing a shopping list, taking a food inventory, planning the week's meals, taking advantage of store specials, product placement and food product labeling.
B. Points that Could Be Improved:
The resource begins immediately with MyPyramid information. Perhaps beginning the DVD with an overview of the content, or stating the purpose and key concepts on the resource packaging or additional materials, would be helpful for nutrition educators. Also, adding a resource guide/lesson plan for educators would be helpful in reinforcing the concepts.
C. General Comments
This fast-paced resource covers a wide range of topics and could serve as a preview or summary for a nutrition lesson about smart shopping. It could also stand alone; however, participants would benefit from some time to process the information through activities or discussion.
D. Overall Summary
This resource provides a good overview of MyPyramid concepts, shopping strategies and food labels in the context of a grocery store. It includes a variety of concepts and could provide an introduction or summary for a nutrition educator in delivering a lesson.
