Description:MyPlate for Older Adults is an educational handout adapted by University of Florida IFAS facultyfrom the USDA's food guidance system MyPlate, which supercedes MyPyramid. Designed for easy use, the mini-poster outlines the recommendations in the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2010, that are specific to older adults. The front side of this color handout includes the USDA pyramid with original artwork of the types of foods that older adults eat. The front also emphasizes the importance of using fortified foods or supplements to meet vitamin D and vitamin B12 requirements as well as the importance of consuming adequate fiber and appropriate fluids. The backside includes recommendations and tips for consuming foods from each food category: Vegetables, Fruits, Grains, Dairy, and Protein Foods. In addition, there are practical and easy to implement tips for eating right and being active.
